All classes begin in September and run through June. Every class includes a warm-up and stretches,
followed by technique, practicing of new steps and choreography.
Class Size & Placement
Class size is limited for each age level. By limiting class size, we are able to give each student the special attention he/she deserves. Our teachers give
corrections based on each individual child. Placement is based upon both age and ability. Every child is different and will progress at his/her own rate.
Classes

Tiny Tutus
A special 30-minute class designed to expose two- and three -year-olds to dance and the
classroom. Tiny Tutus focuses on coordination, following directions, movement and
stretching. Basic Ballet is also introduced. Music and pretend allow your child to develop
creativity while improving balance and gross motor skills. This class is designed for
independent toddlers who can remain in the classroom without a parent or care-giver.
First 4
A combination class consisting of Fitness and Tumbling, Jazz, Tap and Ballet. First 4 is
designed to provide pre-school students (ages 3-5) with a fun introduction to all dance
subjects. Ballet teaches gracefulness, poise and discipline while Tap develops rhythm and
counting skills. Tumbling and Jazz build strength, flexibility and coordination. Even attention
will be given to each subject throughout the year, although some weeks may concentrate
more on one particular discipline.
Ballet
This classical form of artistic expression is the foundation of all dance disciplines. Our
classes are instructed primarily in the French method. Some steps and movements are also
introduced from the Vaganova (Russian) and Cecchetti (Italian) methods. Body placement,
turn-out and direction are stressed in addition to proper French terminology and
pronunciation. All classes include barre work, center practice, floor progression and
reverence accompanied by classical music.

Pointe
Progression to hard boxed shoes is available to students with a minimum of four consecutive
years of Ballet training and teacher recommendation. Female students must have strong muscular
and skeletal development to support themselves on pointe shoes. Students must take an
advanced Ballet class in conjunction with Pointe. Instructor's permission is required to register.
This class is offered for Stage III/IV students only.
Tap
Classes begin with basic sounds and steps and progress to rhythms and multiple-step
combinations. All classes focus on recognizing the number of sounds created by each movement.
Intricate footwork and syncopated rhythms are learned as the class advances. Musicality is
taught to advanced tappers through timing and weight transfer.
Jazz
A form of modern dance, Jazz teaches body isolation, flexibility and strength. Classes include a
thorough warm-up; floor progressions of kicks, leaps, turns and jumps; and center combinations.
Students are exposed to different Jazz styles including Broadway, Character, Fosse, Musical
Theater, Luigi and Funk.
Hip Hop
A fast-paced type of Jazz commonly seen in music videos. Cutting-edge moves are taught in an
age-appropriate manner to family-friendly music. A Jazz or Ballet class must be taken in
conjunction with Hip Hop.
Tumbling
A gymnastic class teaching floor tumbling skills. Both arched back and straight back tricks are
introduced. The curriculum develops flexibility, strength and balance while exposing students to
a wide range of tricks and stunts. Instructors are trained to properly spot students of various
sizes and abilities.
Lyrical
This type of dance shows emotion through expressive movements and facial gestures. Lyrical
combines the technique of Ballet with the energy and improvisation of Jazz. Leg extensions are
used to demonstrate flexibility, balance and control. This discipline concentrates on feeling the
music to portray an idea or emotion through dance. A one-hour Ballet class must be taken in
conjunction with Lyrical. This class is offered only for advanced Stage II, III & IV students.
Modern
A form of experimental free dance, Modern uses a whole body approach to allow freedom of
expression. Flexibility, strength, coordination and body awareness are taught. Dancers will learn
how levels of movement, use of space, gravity, breathing and the weight of the body affect the
physical dynamics of dance motion. A Jazz or Ballet class must be taken in conjunction with
Modern.

technique in a particular discipline. Private lessons also provide reinforcement of class material
